We work through thematic programmes, research agendas, and multi-stakeholder initiatives. Each programme is led by experts in the field and designed to address concrete societal and technological challenges—whether it’s AI transparency, digital public services, or cross-border data governance.
In a world where digitalization is rapidly transforming our lives, trust in information, media, institutions, and one another can no longer be taken for granted. Algorithms largely determine the information we receive, while disinformation spreads at lightning speed. Moreover, as citizens, we have no control over our personal data, which is often in the hands of large foreign tech companies. This undermines democratic processes and places pressure on society. THETA is established to reverse this trend.
Combining knowledge and research To gain common insights and motivation And initiate innovative solutions That bring back trust in information, data and society Organization and ambition THETA is based at the Netherlands Institute for Sound & Vision, an institution with extensive experience in social and research programs. This provides a solid foundation for coordination and expansion. THETA aims for broad collaboration with businesses, knowledge partners, governments, and citizens. THETA aspires to become a key partner in national and European innovation and research programs. The goal is not only to develop knowledge but also to translate it into concrete initiatives that contribute to a trustworthy digital society. THETA invites other parties to join and collaborate on building a future in which trust is the foundation of our information society.
